About This Lesson
During this lesson, students will learn about the First Step Act, a bill designed to reform the criminal justice system in the United States. Students will watch a short introductory video, read speeches from senators speaking in favor and against the legislation, and have their own discussion and vote on whether to pass the bill. Through their work, students will deepen their understanding of the criminal justice system and the United States government.
